The Theory Test is a multiple choice test of 50 highway code questions carried out on a computer, a pass mark of 43 is required which is 85% and will last for 57 minutes with a 3 minute break before the next part. The Hazard Perception test contains 14 video clips and you must spot the developing hazards which arise during each clip; there is one clip in which there are two hazards, a developing hazard is something that may result in you having to take some action such as changing speed or direction. Before you start you will be shown a tutorial video giving examples on how they want you to complete the test. The pass mark for the Hazard Perception is 44 out of 75 which is 60%. When you go to sit your test you must take your photocard driving licence with you, if you forget it you will lose your test fee and will be unable to sit your test. At the present time the Theory Test fee is £23.

At the end of the test you will be given your results. On your success of passing you will be handed a certificate. The certificate is valid for 2 years and if you were unable to pass your practical test in this time you will be required to sit another Theory and Hazard Perception Test.
